There are objects that can become an opportunity to change lives.
In 1997, international referee José María García-Aranda officiated the historic Intercontinental Cup final played in Tokyo between Borussia Dortmund and Cruzeiro. At the end of the match, he received a Borussia Dortmund jersey signed by the players who starred in that unforgettable night.
For almost 30 years, José María has kept this historic piece in exceptional condition. Today he has decided to give it a new purpose: to put it at the service of a charitable cause through the Red Deporte.
This 1997 jersey could become the starting point of a charitable initiative aimed at restoring dignity to the children and young people who live and sleep on the streets of Lusaka, Zambia. The project aims to raise funds to build a new home and educational centre for children living on the streets, a safe space from which to build their future.
The centre will offer:
• A home for 30 children who live and sleep on the streets of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.
• Education and learning support.
• Sports activities as a tool for integration and development.
• Mentoring and support.
• Protection and a safe environment.
• Daily routines that promote inclusion and well-being.
An initiative with the Borussia Dortmund community and all football fans
The proposal seeks to involve the BVB fan community, and all interested fans, in a transparent and participatory fundraising campaign, coinciding with the upcoming 30th anniversary of the club’s historic victories in the UEFA Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup.
