‘Sport ID’ – Interculturality and Sport Program
The promotion of interculturality and support for the refugee population is part of our identity document. Under this name, a European-level program is born, in which Red Deporte participates, with the goal of promoting access to inclusive sport for the most vulnerable populations in Europe—primarily refugees and immigrants at risk of exclusion.
This program is supported by thirteen European partners. Among other outcomes, it will produce a guide so that all European organizations in the social and educational fields can start or improve activities that promote interculturality and integration through sport.
The refugee crisis that emerged in Europe in 2015 requires political and social action. The emphasis should be placed on welcoming and integrating, rather than returning or expelling people from the European space. Sport ID takes advantage of the ‘universal language’ of sport, making it one of the most effective, fast, and simple ways to break down barriers between people from different cultures.
Sport ID is supported by the European Commission and, over two years, will develop a model of social and inclusive sport designed for the European space. A type of sport that considers the legitimate aspirations of millions of vulnerable immigrants, migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers who flee war and poverty in their impoverished home countries. A population that has risked their lives and those of their families in search of a new home within the shared European space.
