Red Deporte’s Comprehensive Health Program in Cameroon

Red Deporte is carrying out a health intervention in the East Region of Cameroon that combines health education with healthcare services for the most vulnerable populations, especially children, youth, and young mothers. Medical care is provided at the Nkol-Bikon clinic, supporting vaccination programs, general and pediatric consultations, as well as ultrasound diagnostics.

In community schools, a football-based activity program is conducted to promote basic health and fight against HIV/AIDS and malaria—two of the leading causes of risk and mortality in the area. As part of the health education program, 40 coaches and educators have been trained to use football and play as tools for community health intervention through educational activities.

Both volunteer medical staff and local coaches work together in Cameroonian schools with the goal of improving public health in settlements near Bertoua, the capital of Cameroon’s East Region, which has a high refugee population. Since 2012, more than 3,000 people have benefited from our program in Cameroon, with a high proportion of children and young people.
