PROMOTING COMMUNITY HEALTH IN MANSA , ZAMBIA
Red Deporte, hasĀ carried outĀ a health program in the town of Mansa, located in northern Zambia, during second half of 2019, in collaboration with the Salesians.
To do so, it has moved a team ofĀ threeĀ health professionals, thanks to the agreement signedĀ withĀ Galicia Region Government in Spain. Clinical workĀ has takenĀ place in local community clinic, sharing knowledge and working methods with health personnel, in order to make joint decisions and find the best option combining both ways of working.
TheĀ clinicalĀ interventionĀ has been complemented withĀ the development of community activities onĀ preventiveĀ healthĀ in a youth centre.Ā The workshops with youth and children were about healthy eating and exercise,Ā hygieneĀ and basic health,Ā sexuality and HIV,Ā malariaĀ prevention consumption ofĀ drugs and alcohol.Ā Sports activities were integratedĀ inĀ the workshops, with games and adapted sports.
In addition, a pilot initiative for physiotherapy care has been launched in the Mansa village environment.Ā Likewise, in collaboration with local clinics,Ā diverse pathologies have been treated in every part of the body. Finally, various injury prevention talks were held among the population and young athletes.
The work carried outĀ in collaboration with our partners and local educators,Ā beingĀ an excellent start to promote health by Red Deporte in this region of Zambia.
