´Goal Click Refugees´ and Red Deporte
The analog cameras are back on stage to capture the reality of refugees in Europe, through football. Red Deporte is part of this project that has been capturing the hope of refugees around the world and their connection to the practice of football. The young people hosted under the umbrella of Red Deporte have the opportunity to express how they live and grow around the world’s most popular sport.
Christian, a fifteen-year-old Gypsy boy, and Martiel, a fifteen-year-old Central African refugee, share the same curiosity for an object unknown to them, as they were born and raised in a digital environment. “Goal Click for Refugees” opens the door to a more spontaneous, human photography, where the element of surprise comes into play. This type of photography shows the reality of refugees in a more truthful and authentic way, free from selfies or computer edits.
This project shows through the lens the spontaneity and uniqueness of thousands of children and young people around football. But its true value lies in its intention to raise awareness about the plight of refugees worldwide, with football as a backdrop. A showcase of the best photographic works is exhibited at high-level sporting events, such as the World Cup. A stage where everyone can come to learn about the ‘other football’ played daily in millions of settlements and neighborhoods around the globe.
