CAMEROON
Red Deporte has been working in eastern Cameroon since 2012, supporting vulnerable refugee populations fleeing conflict in neighboring Central African Republic. Our multisectoral program supports education through the construction of schools. We have built two primary and secondary schools in the East Region and equipped two community schools with sports facilities for football, basketball, and volleyball.
Sport—especially football—is used for two main purposes: to improve school attendance and academic performance among young refugee girls, and to promote basic health among the most vulnerable refugee and local populations in eastern Cameroon. Our program is supported by FIFA Football for Hope, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the U.S. Embassy in Cameroon, and White & Case.
