40 Coaches Trained in Sports for Health

Red Deporte has completed the training process for 40 young coaches and trainers in Football for Health in Cameroon. This training is part of Red Deporte’s intervention program in the East Region of Cameroon, which hosts nearly two hundred thousand refugees from the Central African Republic.

The program trains coaches in HIV/AIDS prevention, malaria, and the promotion of basic hygiene among the most vulnerable children and youth populations. These activities are primarily carried out within football training sessions and related dynamics.

All participants have successfully passed the various program evaluation tests, and thanks to this, we will reach nearly 3,000 young people who will benefit from health-promoting activities in the community.

The program focuses particularly on three community health issues: malaria, HIV/AIDS, and basic hygiene. Key issues considering some statistics.

Regarding malaria, in 2016 there were 216 million cases, causing 445,000 deaths. 91% of these deaths occurred in Africa.

HIV/AIDS has claimed 40 million lives to date. Two-thirds of the total global new HIV infections occur in Africa.

Lack of basic hygiene is related to the transmission of cholera, diarrhea, typhoid fever, and polio, causing 280,000 deaths annually.
