During the summer of 2025, we expanded our work in Zambia to support the integration of children rescued from the streets. Javier and Miriam, two physical education teachers from Valencia, spent the summer implementing a sports program together with Action for Children Zambia, aimed at boys and girls coming from a harsh and challenging reality — life on the streets.
“It is truly rewarding to help these children move forward through sports. Although the work being done does not always bring immediate results, it changes the lives of those who have nothing — giving them a second chance to grow and improve their quality of life, which until now has not been easy.”
Red Deporte’s intervention consisted of organizing and implementing all the sports activities, providing the necessary equipment and staff, and also offering after-school support to the children in their daily tasks.
“The children filled us with joy — with their smiles, their eagerness to learn, and their endless energy. There is still much to do; it’s not easy, but we want to keep contributing both personally and professionally, and never lose sight of these people we already miss so much,” Javier said, reflecting on their work in Zambia.
The intervention coincided with the ongoing work at the City of Hope, focusing particularly on promoting football as a tool for empowerment, at the new Sports Center built with the support of the UEFA Foundation for Children and the entire community.
