“Impact of Investing in Sports along ESG Emerging Standards”

Red Deporte has been represented in the prestigious conference Sport4Impact International Symposium celebrated in Milano. The conference about “Impact of Investing in Sports along ESG Emerging Standards” represented a time for inspiration and reflection about the role of sport for development and potential implications of the financial sector.

A forum on the transformative impact of sport that offers communities of professionals, operators, public bodies, sports organizations, and companies the opportunity to enhance their skills, build networks, partnerships, and intervention programs. A unique opportunity to build stronger communities through sport and dialogue!

Here are a few interesting developments I’d like to share:

Listed companies are obligated to demonstrate social responsibility under the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria. Historically, the majority of investments have been directed towards the environmental sector, primarily to meet market requirements. However, since last year, more opportunities for social (S) investments have opened up due to regulatory changes.

Within the social sphere, sports are recognized as a powerful tool for positive societal change. Mario Carlo Ferrario, a representative of the Italian venture capital and private equity industry and part of Sport4Impact, perfectly explained why sports are an ideal social impact investment:

  • Promotes Individual Values: motivation, discipline, resilience, character building, and teamwork.
  • Fosters Social Values: inclusion, education, intercultural dialogue, crime prevention, and citizen empowerment.
  • Beyond Playing and Competition: sports touch on health, education, technology, and consumer sectors—all attractive and growing fields for investment.

Red Deporte contributed with its experience in different “glocal” initiatives that inspire youth and communities to improve their lives through sport. We were delighted to meet other sport for development actors as UNESCO, GIZ, ADIDAS FOUNDATION, SSCN AFRICA, and different authorities at international level.

Thanks so much to get us in the event, and specially to Paolo Bertachini for the fantastic work done in the beautiful Italian city of Milano.
