Last Friday, we celebrated a very special event in Barrio del Pilar, where sport, community spirit and active participation came together to bring a new gathering space for local residents to life. The event was part of the “A Ball Can Change the Neighbourhood” project, led by Red Deporte Foundation with the support of Common Goal.
Together with the President of the Fuencarral-El Pardo District, José Antonio Martínez Páramo, we officially inaugurated the new spectator stands installed next to the sports courts in Plaza de Carballo. This improvement will allow families, local residents and sports enthusiasts to enjoy matches and community activities in a more comfortable and accessible environment. The initiative reflects our commitment to revitalising and strengthening public spaces as places for social interaction, inclusion and community participation.

The event also welcomed students, teachers and members of the leadership team from Virgen del Pilar School. Throughout the morning, Red Deporte’s educators and coaches organised a variety of sports activities tailored to the children, including football, volleyball and relay races.
Through these fun and educational activities, participants enjoyed an inclusive and positive environment where they could play, learn and connect with one another. We firmly believe that sport plays a fundamental role in the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of young people. It encourages healthy lifestyles, strengthens self-confidence and promotes essential values such as respect, teamwork and positive coexistence.
The morning concluded with a shared lunch, providing an additional opportunity for students, teachers and members of the local community to come together and strengthen their connections.
At Red Deporte Foundation, we would like to thank everyone who helped make this initiative possible, including all the individuals, organisations and institutions involved. We are especially grateful to Common Goal, whose support enables us to continue developing projects that use sport as a powerful tool for social inclusion, community development and positive social change.
